Blog
As some very wise person said: "sometimes it's better to play for to crowd of 200 who know your music than to 200 000 who don't give a damn".
As you know, we like to promote the people around doing great things. This week, it's time to go further down the lakeside to pay a visit to la fête du slip, in Lausanne!
La Fête du Slip is a multidisciplinary festival about sexualities. Itʼs a positive and festive celebration of the diversity of gender identities, bodies, practices and sexual orientations. Whether through cinema, music, photography, literature, performance or visual arts, La Fête du Slip comes from all sides to create a space for sharing, discovery and debate about a subject that concerns us all: sex!
A while ago, we mentionned the legendary Techno Viking on our blog. This figure has been more present everyday for a couple of years now, and he is not happy nobody gave him a toy to play with.
Some christmas gifts land in a bit later than you'd expect, but when they do, they do it with a BANG!
At the Plak HQ, we just got another one of those hefty and incredible Airbag Craftworks Chateau Vinyl record bags. Chaton's been rocking one since a loooooong long time, so I took the plunge too seeing his still looks brand new even today. The bag arrived, looking spanky new, and i must say it's one of the finest bags i've put my hands on. I've been using it for the past few gigs now, and boy has it given me a new outlook on life!
Nothing can compare to it in the competition... Great craftmanship and proper record love. They also do a lot of other great gear which you should check out here.
Here's a few pictures with some recods in, and especially the latest Workshop record. Which we'd describe as "melancholic voodoo house".
Plak is back! Like the last party for our 11 years, we prepared again, a party, with the "crême de la crême" of the local electronic dance music, and for the very first time in Calvingrad, John Daly will be playing live! This discreet prince of house has been dropping beats from New-York to Tokya, and is a regular of London's Fabric club as well as Berlin's world famous Panorama Bar. The rest of the evening, will see past and future Plak artists conduct your musical trip like they know to do so well.

Our man Se-Te-Ve has started a new mix series called 10 12" with Se-Te-Ve.
what he says about it:
Have you got a moment?Here's 10 12" with Se-Te-Ve: a vinyl only mix serie, made on my old and trusty mk2s, my mixer and myself. What i propose is a musical interlude made of classics, oldies and exclusives. It's recorded without any pretention with a playlist that made itself on the go.10 12" with Se-Te-Ve #1 - tracklist:1_RTX_Pendulum _Deeply Rooted House 0382_Samuel André Madsen_This party ain't over_Nord 0013_Nikola Gala_Only (Ryan Elliott remix)_Rekids 0624_Tony Lionni_Anubis_Tokyo House Underground5_Jussi Pekka_Distinct only within_Audiomatique0056_Redshape_The land_3024 0177_Mirko Hecktor_Homeless house Chicago raw remix_Knuggles recordings 0038_Maxx Renn_Acid Jack_Jamayka 0199_Joeski_I will rise_Moezee Musik 00210_Simon Weiss_Amsterdam waves (rewaved)_Rush Hour 042
Great article on the one and only LWE with a personnal fav of ours:
When asked about the gender-related clubbing pet peeves, Marea Vierge-Noire gave this exemplary response which must be presented in full: “Don’t book women onto all female lineups. Separating women from men on lineups is rarely a celebration of women’s contributions to dance music. More often, it sends the message that we should be separated to even the playing field, as if there were a disadvantage to account for. This isn’t the Olympics. We’re not being compared to men in the shot-put category. Don’t book women because they’re women and they’re adequate for the job. Book women because they’re right for your show. Book women because they’re better than the guy you were thinking about booking and don’t book them if they aren’t.”
Check the whole thing here.

Before the upcoming X years of Plak party at the same club, Opuswerk recorded the output of the mixer while he was warming up the room before Xhin. As the man puts it himself: "Started with and empty room and slowly it filled up. As all warmups, the trick is to keep tension rising while not going over the top and letting room for the headliner. So don't expect it to go harder and harder. Mix is not so tight all the time and could've been tighter, but i didn't record anything in a long while , so i thought this one would be interesting to share. TIP!!! : Put your subbass one when listening ;)"
Sit back and enjoy some of the deeper shades of techno.
A tattoo day quite special this time. I hope you will enjoy... or not...

a grave of Ian Curtis and Jim Morrisson, wtf!?

yep yep we sleep on this one...u know summer time, more time around the bbq and riding the bowl than in the studio. Anyway here is a Plak Radio special +91 ahead session mixed on 2 MKII'S and a xone mixer. Enjoy and go out !
good to see and listen Eli Verveine on the weekly RA podcast ! at the end the RA crew always move from ugly commercial ibiza tech house and real techno house, this week we're super happy to listen to Eli from Zürich, awesome dj, playing 12", keeping low profile on promotion( i mean being "honest")...I think she's true to the techno spirit and above all its podcast is a pure gem, listen to it now, in 6 months, in 6 years and invite friends and open a nice bottle of wine.

This video is actually a software that you can run on your computer. The whole thing weighs a litle 4kb which is less than an empty word document.
Worthy winner of the PC 4kB intro competition at Revision 2012 and latest example of the compact-coding tradition exercised within the demoscene, Hartverdrahtet by Akronyme Analogiker is a three minute long audio-visual trip into a procedural fractalverse, compressed into a minuscule piece of software. No bigger than 4069 bytes – less than an empty Word document, as demoscene activists like to point out – the executable file contains all the mathematics needed to generate the unfolding visual complexity and audible ambience upon a double-click. A solo effort by a talented coder who calls himself Demoscene Passivist, Hartverdrahtet reveals a mesmerizing cosmos observed through what could be an electron microscope – ethereal, greenish and a little eerie. via creativeapplications

Here's a small set by our friend John Daly.
What he says about it:
"a mix i put together yesterday, since it's now been 5 or 6 years of making records. it felt like a good time to do it...
i really enjoyed making this mix, it's a great way to take stock, see where you went right, and way way wrong...like i can hear my shitty old behringer mixer on some of these...and why are there no cymbal crashes on solaris?? etc etc
but most importantly a reminder of where i come from musically...when you get into this thing, you can't help but get bogged down in trying to make a big hit record or whatever, and that's often at the expense of where you came from in the first place...i've learned a lot about my music listening to these old tracks, and am looking forward to putting this knowledge to use...
big thanks to all the labels who took a chance on me. there's some things i didn't get to put on here, i didn't want to make it too long...so i'll probably do another soon, hence the "pt. 1""
Little preparation of the mix of Opuswerk to promote the Electron Festival, this week-end at Geneva.
Be there or be square !!!
